Dear Friends,
At our prospective new member gatherings over the years, including last week, we go around the room and share our faith backgrounds. I always find it fascinating. Some folks grew up in active church-going families, and some didn't. Some were blessed by their childhood churches and some were harmed greatly. In our pews, we have people from all different faith backgrounds and some who are experiencing church for the first time. My hope is that when people enter First Church they feel the love and know that we are a group of people who strive to be faithful, hope-filled, inclusive and loving.
This Sunday we have the joy of participating in a worship service written and led by our high school confirmands. The service was put together by the confirmands and their mentors, and we hope you will attend. Some folks decide not to come because the youth are leading the worship service, but that would be a mistake. Their words are important and powerful, and we have faith lessons to learn from them.
We invite you to come to the 8:00 a.m. service in the Micah Chapel, 10:00 a.m. in the Meetinghouse or online.
The bulletin, large print bulletin and announcement slides are available on our website. You can watch any of our livestreamed or recorded services on our YouTube channel.
Some of the youth leading worship have been attending First Church since before they can remember, and others have come more recently. Regardless, our prayer is that our church is one where they know they are loved, accepted and valued. And isn't that really our prayer for all people in our church community? That we have a safe landing place to come just as we are and know we are loved.
Blessings,
Kate
Our First Church family of faith enjoys worshipping together, and we hope you will join us! On most Sundays our worship services are at 8:00 am in the Micah Chapel, 10:00 am in the Meetinghouse and livestreamed at 10:00 am (and are also available for viewing later).
