When: Sunday, April 11 to Saturday, April 17

Where: BACK BAY MISSION — BILOXI, MISSISSIPPI

Who can go? This trip is open to any 9th through 12th graders and will be chaperoned by our adult Advisors.

When will we go? During GHS April Break, Sunday, April 11 - Saturday April 17, 2027.

What organization will we work with? Back Bay Mission is a nonprofit community ministry of the United Church of Christ serving the people of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. It has been a force for good since 1922, meeting the needs of those suffering from poverty and its effects. Our church has a long-standing relationship with Back Bay Mission and they have hosted our youth mission trips before, as well as our annual adult trip each January.

What kind of work will we do? Our group will be divided into work teams working at various sites throughout the week. Typically, work with Back Bay Mission includes construction. Their housing restoration program helps low-income families stay in their homes by making necessary renovations and repairs. We will also help staff the food pantry for emergency assistance clients and volunteer at Micah Day Center, which serves homeless clients with laundry and showering facilities. And, of course, there’s always time built in to have fun, see the area and get to know the community.

Why do we go? So many reasons! We go because we feel compelled by the Gospel to care for the poor and vulnerable of our world. We go because there is a deep need for helpers in this world. We go because we have so much love to share. Finally, we go because in just a week you’ll learn new skills, experience more of God’s amazing creation, form deep connections with friends new and old and have an experience you’ll never forget,

Where will we stay? We will stay at Back Bay Mission, which hosts our group in their dormitory-style housing.

What is the cost? The cost is approximately $800 per participant. A $100 deposit is due on November 1. Financial assistance is available. Please talk to Pastor Kate VanDerzee-Glidden for further details.

How will we get there? We will fly to the Gulf Coast and use rental vans to travel around during our week.

When are the Mission Trip meetings? Participants must be present for monthly mandatory youth mission meetings during SHF sessions on 11/1, 1/10, 2/7, 3/7, and 3/21.

Can I bring a friend? YES! Friends are highly encouraged, and we offer a $100 discount if you bring a friend from outside First Church.

What if I have more questions? Please contact Faith Ferrall.
