Summer worship schedule: one service at 9:30 am! (Meetinghouse and livestreamed)

  • Preacher: Ally Glass, Sabbatical Pastor

  • Music: Chris Hart, tenor; Jim Barry, guest organist

Dear Friends,

Seen hope and unseen hope are the themes of our scripture readings this week. Psalm 130 begins with the voice of one individual singer crying out to God with hopeful expectation of God’s presence. The single voice invites all traveling companions to “hope” – expectantly hope, as they approach Jerusalem together. In the same way, the Apostle Paul invites us to “hope for what we do not see, we wait with patience.”

One of the privileges of preparing worship for this Sunday is choosing a picture and quotes for the cover of our bulletin. During the week I continued to think about what image would best define the hope we find in God’s presence. Pictures of children playing popped into my head, followed by pictures of people helping each other, by a picture of our church and so on…then it became clear…I chose a picture of a sunrise. Not just a picture of a sunrise, but the image shows the sun peeking through the mountains and reflecting on the water, inviting us into a new day. May each of us greet the new day with the assurance of God’s loving presence in our lives.

We will gather on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. in the Meetinghouse and online. We hope you will join us!

The bulletin, large print bulletin and announcement slides are available on our website. You can watch any of our livestreamed or recorded services on our YouTube channel.

Blessings,

Pastor Ally

Kate VanDerzee-Glidden is out of the office through July 25 as she uses some owed sabbatical time. Please contact the church office if you need assistance. Nicole Struth and Rev. Betsey Polglase are here during the summer, and Rev. Ally Glass is filling in as Sabbatical Pastor while Kate is away. As we shared in The Reminder, Rev. Ally is a retired ordained minister of the United Church of Christ and a member of our congregation.

Our First Church family of faith enjoys worshipping together, and we hope you will join us! During summer, we have one service at 9:30 am in the Meetinghouse and livestreamed (and services are also available for viewing later).
