Dear Friends,
As you may have noticed by now, I like stories that lift us up, show humanity at its best and remind us to live with compassion in our hearts and actions. ❤ Lately I’ve found it really hard to read the news – the violence, hatred, injustice, war, hardship and devastation are just too much.
The feelings of hopelessness at the state of the world can be overwhelming, and yet I know that as faithful people, God calls us to make the world a more peaceful, compassionate and just place. Earlier this week I was reminded of an inspiring and simple quote. "What is left for us to do in this broken world but love?"
At First Church, we aim to be a community where we welcome, include, love and affirm all people no matter where we are on life’s journey. This Sunday we will be inspired by the prophet Micah's words "to do justice, love kindness and walk humbly with God" and Jesus’ words calling us "to be the light" in the world.
We hope you will join us for worship at 8:00 a.m. in the Micah Chapel, 10:00 a.m. in the Meetinghouse or online.
The bulletin, large print bulletin and announcement slides are available on our website. You can watch any of our livestreamed or recorded services on our YouTube channel.
On the cover of this week's bulletin, there is a quote from Kofi Annan, the 7th UN Secretary General and 2001 Nobel Peace Prize winner.
"To live is to choose. But to choose well, you must know who you are and what you stand for, where you want to go and why you want to get there."
Friends, each and every day we get to choose who we are as people of faith. May the words from our Sunday scripture passages inspire us to be bearers of God's light and love in our world!
Love,
Kate
Our First Church family of faith enjoys worshipping together, and we hope you will join us! On most Sundays our worship services are at 8:00 am in the Micah Chapel, 10:00 am in the Meetinghouse and livestreamed at 10:00 am (and are also available for viewing later).
