Dear Friends,

There have been moments this week when I found myself feeling frustrated, sad and angry about what is happening in our world - war, famine, natural disasters, food insecurity, car accidents, personal struggles and hatred. My thoughts were racing as I was driving earlier this week, and then I looked over and noticed a tree with bright yellow leaves sparkling in the sunlight. The other trees around this one had lost their leaves so the yellow tree struck me with its majesty. There is beauty is all around us.

Nature offers some of the world's purest and simplest joys and the ability to feel connected to God. John Muir, Scottish-born American naturalist, author, environmental philosopher and early advocate for the preservation of wilderness in the United States, writes “Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul.”

We know the gift of the natural world and our responsibility to take care of it, and we know the gift of community where we can experience beauty and connection, as well as harder moments of life together.

This Sunday let us come together to give thanks for the gifts of nature and community. We will worship at 8:00 a.m. in the Micah Chapel and 10:00 a.m. in the Meetinghouse and online.

The bulletin, large print bulletin and announcement slides are available on our website. You can watch any of our livestreamed or recorded services on our YouTube channel.

I have a magnet on my kitchen refrigerator with this Apache blessing:

May the sun bring you new energy by day,

May the moon softly restore you by night,

May the rain wash away your worries,

May the breeze blow new strength into your being.

May you walk gently through the world and know its beauty all the days of your life.

Love,

Kate
