Dear Friends,
Many nights this week I have been up wrestling with my own personal grief and my anxiety about our future as a country and our world. Today in the early morning hours when darkness still surrounded me, I thought of the stories in Scripture when we hear of people struggling AND God showing up. Through frustration, grief, hopelessness and confusion, God shows up and guides God’s beloved community. The same is true today. We face division and discord, sadness and challenges, but God has not abandoned us, and we honor our call to continue to be faithful and justice-seeking people.
Just like God shows up, we are called to show up and serve, learn, connect and worship together. Join us this Sunday at 8:00 a.m. in the Micah Chapel or at 10:00 a.m. in the Meetinghouse or online. This Sunday at both services we will honor our veterans and all those who have served our country in hopes of creating a more just and peaceful world.
The bulletin, large print bulletin and announcement slides are available on our website. You can watch any of our livestreamed or recorded services on our YouTube channel.
When we are struggling, may we remind ourselves what we know is true. We hold on to those we love. We turn inward and grant ourselves peace. We acknowledge that much is beyond our control. We offer love and hope to others. We continue to respond to our call to do justice, love kindness and walk humbly with our God. We give thanks for belonging to a compassionate community where we care for one another and the world.
Our First Church family of faith enjoys worshipping together, and we hope you will join us! On most Sundays our worship services are at 8:00 am in the Micah Chapel and 10:00 am in the Meetinghouse and livestreamed (and are also available for viewing later).
Blessings and peace,
Kate
My bookshelves are filled with inspiring words, including these from the Serenity Prayer.
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And wisdom to know the difference.
