Dear Friends,
Have you ever had a secret that was almost impossible to keep? Maybe it was exciting news, a surprise you couldn't wait to share or something you knew but weren't quite ready to say out loud. Usually, when we discover something wonderful, our first instinct is to tell someone.
That is part of what makes this week's Gospel reading so interesting. Peter finally says aloud what the disciples have been slowly coming to understand: Jesus is the Messiah. It feels like the moment when the disciples should be sent out to tell everyone what they have discovered. Instead, Jesus gives them a surprising instruction: don't tell anyone.
Why would Jesus want them to keep something so important a secret? Maybe knowing the right words isn't always the same as understanding what they mean. And maybe following Jesus is about more than what we tell others; it is also about how encountering Christ transforms us.
Each week we have the opportunity to worship together. Join us this Sunday at 9:30 a.m. in the Meetinghouse or online. We have childcare and church school available.
The bulletin, large print bulletin and announcement slides are available on our website. You can watch any of our livestreamed or recorded services on our YouTube channel.
Blessings,
Nicole
Our First Church family of faith enjoys worshipping together, and we hope you will join us! During summer, we have one service at 9:30 am in the Meetinghouse and livestreamed (and services are also available for viewing later).
