Dear Friends,
The image of light has been on my mind lately.
I'm grateful the days are longer, warmer and brighter.
I'm thankful for opportunities to do interfaith work in our community. Earlier this week we hosted the second annual Glastonbury Holocaust Remembrance Event. Powerful words were shared, and at the end of the evening, we sang a beautiful song while holding up individual lit candles in the dark Meetinghouse. This was a beautiful reminder of the power of sharing light and love in the world.
We are blessed to belong to a congregation where we have an active youth program. Each year the youth mission trip has a theme they focus on, and this year it was "Be the Light."
In a world of sadness, darkness and injustice, God calls us to be bearers of light, love and hope. Individually and collectively we do this in all sorts of ways, including by delivering Easter flowers, handing out fresh food in our back parking lot, participating in hunger walks and Mission Immersion Days, learning and reading together, singing songs of faith, giving generously to our Easter offering, worshipping as one community, recognizing and honoring Mental Health Awareness Month and going on a mission trip. And these are just some of the ways we are being the light this week at First Church.
We are in our Season of Celebration, which means we have one service at 10 a.m. in the Meetinghouse and online. This Sunday we have the privilege of participating in a worship service written by and led by our high school students who went on a mission trip to Back Bay Mission in Biloxi, Mississippi. Please join us!
The bulletin, large print bulletin and announcement slides are available on our website. You can watch any of our livestreamed or recorded services on our YouTube channel.
May the words of Amanda Gorman inspire us to "be the light" each and every day. “There is always light. If only we’re brave enough to see it. If only we’re brave enough to be it.”
Blessings,
Kate
Our First Church family of faith enjoys worshipping together, and we hope you will join us! On most Sundays our worship services are at 8:00 am in the Micah Chapel and 10:00 am in the Meetinghouse and livestreamed (and are also available for viewing later).
