Dear Friends,

A few weeks ago I was looking at agendas from past church leader meetings, and for some reason, I opened one from August 2020. We were in the heart of the pandemic, and the words of that particular yearly church theme comforted and inspired us – Moving Forward with Vision, Hope, Endurance and Love! One of the verses that we focused on that year was Proverbs 29:18. "Where there is no vision the people perish." Also on this agenda from August 2020 are David Taylor's words that he would often share with the church staff, leaders and congregation. "To dream is the beginning of reality."

In our broken world filled with violence, hatred, injustice and many other "giants," we are called to move forward with vision, hope, endurance and love. We must keep welcoming refugees, loving our neighbors and using our voices to stand up to injustice. We must work towards a world where gun violence is no more, and our children, families and educators can go to school without worry and fear. We must, friends, keeping dreaming of and working towards a world of hope, peace and compassion.

Join us this Sunday at 9:00 a.m. in the Meetinghouse or online to hear an inspiring message shared by Nicole Struth and music by Ken Kousen. We will also serve Holy Communion on Sunday. (And don't forget to save the date for Homecoming Sunday on September 7 at 10:00 a.m.!)

The bulletinlarge print bulletin and announcement slides are available on our website. You can watch any of our livestreamed or recorded services on our YouTube channel.

On this Labor Day weekend, may the words of our closing hymn, O for a World, challenge and inspire us. "O for a world where everyone respects each other's ways, where love is lived and all is done with justice and with praise...We welcome one world family, and struggle with each choice that opens us to unity and gives our vision voice."

Blessings,

Kate

Our First Church family of faith enjoys worshipping together, and we hope you will join us!

Our worship services resume our program year schedule on September 14 at 8:00 am in the Micah Chapel and 10:00 am in the Meetinghouse and livestreamed at 10:00 am (and also available for viewing later).
