Letter from the Pastor
Dear Friends,
This weekend our nation is marking The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Some of us feel overwhelmed by the needs of the world and injustices at every turn, and yet we are called to remember and act.
All year long, we remember that Dr. King’s Christian faith inspired him to work for a more just world where everyone was given a seat at the table. And we remember that others who called themselves Christians were ferociously opposed to this undertaking. We remember that not only did Dr. King fight racial discrimination, but he also spoke fervently against war and against exploitative economic systems. Perhaps most importantly, we remember that his untimely death left his work unfinished and that today we are the inheritors of Dr. King's call for a social and spiritual transformation.
This Sunday we welcome guest preachers Roger and Nicole Brewer to our church. I’ve known the Brewer family since I was ten, as we all attended the Middlefield Federated Church together. Nicole and Roger are a father-daughter team who wrote the book Withstanding the Lie (WTL). WTL offers a five-step program for thwarting bigotry and discrimination and coping with their impacts to develop a renewed appreciation for yourself and for others who are perceived as “different.” Roger and Nicole’s authenticity and faith will surely inspire us, and I hope you will join us.
Come worship together at 8:00 a.m. in the Micah Chapel and at 10:00 a.m. in the Meetinghouse, or you can join us online.
I missed worshiping with you all last week, and I look forward to seeing you on Sunday as we are inspired to live out our faith and continue the work of Dr. King.
Blessings,
Kate
