Dear Friends,
It's been a busy week at First Church, and we are so excited that Homecoming Sunday is just a couple of days away! On Tuesday evening, 60 volunteers and staff members gathered in Schultz Hall for our annual orientation. Although some of the training included serious subjects, it was clear people were happy to be together – smiling, hugging, asking questions and sharing ideas. In a world where fear, violence, hatred and sadness are all around, we come to First Church to find connection, hope and community.
Join us this weekend for Homecoming Sunday as we live out our church theme of "Being the Church" – worshipping, connecting, singing and praying together! This Sunday Ross Tucker and the Hot Cat Jazz Band and our Chancel Choir and youth choir camp participants will inspire us with their music. We invite you to worship with us in person in the Meetinghouse at 10:00 a.m. or online.
The bulletin, large print bulletin and announcement slides are available on our website. You can watch any of our livestreamed or recorded services on our YouTube channel.
After the service, we will have our annual church picnic – no sign up necessary – come as you are to enjoy this time of food, fellowship and fun (even if the weather doesn't cooperate)!
This Sunday our youth programs begin, and you can find more information on our website. Junior High Fellowship (6th – 8th grade) families will meet at 12:00 p.m. and Senior High Fellowship (9th – 12th grade) families will meet at 4:00 p.m. in the Meetinghouse, with fun activities to follow each meeting.
Also, we invite you to bring a friend or neighbor (BAFON) this Sunday and on September 14! As I said on Sunday, research shows that the number one reason why people visit a church is because someone invited them!
God calls us to be "Be the Church" - always living faithfully, loving all of God's children and being courageous. We hope you will join us this Sunday for a day of compassion, connection and community! ❤
Blessings,
Kate
Our First Church family of faith enjoys worshipping together, and we hope you will join us! Resuming on September 14, our worship services are at 8:00 am in the Micah Chapel, 10:00 am in the Meetinghouse and livestreamed (and are also available for viewing later).
