Dear Friends,
I remember a moment during college when I read the news and thought, "Wow, there's a world outside of Clark (University)." I know this sounds so simplistic; of course there's a world out there. But often it's easy to get absorbed into our own lives - the sorrows and challenges, the joy and excitement and the ordinary and mundane moments. It isn't bad to focus on our own lives, but our faith calls us to always remember there's a world beyond our own. There are successes to celebrate, people to feed, causes to fight for and humanity to love. We are blessed at First Church with a vibrant, loving and hope-filled community, and it is our "job" to take the light and compassion of God out into the world.
Join us this Sunday as we worship at 8:00 a.m. in the Micah Chapel and 10:00 a.m. in the Meetinghouse. We will give out Bibles to our third graders and commission our confirmands at the later service. We are still planning to have our "Be the Church" fair following the 10:00 a.m. service, and it's a big day for our tag sale team as well. As always, if you don't feel comfortable coming to church because of the weather, you can join us online.
The bulletin, large print bulletin and announcement slides are available on our website. You can watch any of our livestreamed or recorded services on our YouTube channel.
Starting today eight lay delegates from our church, as well as our ordained clergy, will be attending the Southern New England Conference of the UCC annual meeting in Worcester. We ask for prayers for our delegates and clergy as we listen, pray and debate. The closing line of a prayer sent to us by the SNEUCC leaders reads, "As we gather, open our hearts to one another and to your Spirit. Bring us safely together and send us home renewed to love and serve." Amen.
With love,
Kate
