Dear Friends,
My office is filled with many growing plants, beautiful pictures of places I’ve been blessed enough to travel to, special gifts I’ve received over the years and inspiring wall hangings. One of the posters on my wall says, “If you want peace, work for justice.”
As many of you know, I grew up in a family where from a young age I learned the importance of the words of the prophet Micah – to do good, love kindness and walk with God. As a child, I learned that having faith meant loving God, showing up, speaking out, connecting with others and building community.
Each week we come together being the church and the Body of Christ by responding to God’s call and working to make our world a more just, peaceful and compassionate place.
All around the world, churches will be celebrating World Communion Sunday on October 5. Christian congregations around the world “gather around the table” to uplift their unity as the Body of Christ called to be the church together sharing love, hope and peace in the world. This Sunday our children will be joining us in the Sacrament of Communion.
Also this Sunday, we have the privilege of welcoming Rev. Shari Prestemon, our Associate General Minister and Co-Executive of Global Ministries for the national setting of the United Church of Christ, to help us lead worship. We have two services (8:00 a.m. in the Micah Chapel and 10:00 a.m. in the Meetinghouse and online), and we hope you will join us! It will be a special morning at our worship services and also our Justice Fair following the 10:00 a.m. service.
The bulletin, large print bulletin and announcement slides are available on our website. You can watch any of our livestreamed or recorded services on our YouTube channel.
A church member gave me a colorful cross that sits on one of my office shelves. It reminds me of the beauty of God’s wonderful and diverse world and how we are called to be peacemakers, justice-seekers and love-sharers wherever we go.
I look forward to seeing you on Sunday.
Take care,
Kate
P.S. Thanks to all who have worked so hard on our church tag sale. We have a few more volunteer spots left (get info or sign up online), and we would love for you to come shop too!
Our First Church family of faith enjoys worshipping together, and we hope you will join us! Our worship services are at 8:00 am in the Micah Chapel, 10:00 am in the Meetinghouse and livestreamed at 10:00 am (and are also available for viewing later).
