Dear Friends,
Earlier this week at our worship staff meeting we were talking about Dorothy Day. Born in 1897, Day was an American journalist, social activist and a mover and a shaker. In the 1930s, Day, along with others, established the Catholic Worker Movement, a pacifist movement that combined direct aid for the poor and homeless with nonviolent direct action. Dorothy's life was one of faith, hope and compassion, and her wisdom still inspires many of us. Day once wrote, "We have all known the long loneliness, and we have found that the answer is community."
Here at First Church, we strive to be a community of gratitude, justice, hope and love. We invite you to worship with us this Sunday at 8:00 a.m. in the Micah Chapel and 10:00 a.m. in the Meetinghouse and online.
The bulletin, large print bulletin and announcement slides are available on our website. You can watch any of our livestreamed or recorded services on our YouTube channel.
In a society where individualism and always being the best is often the goal, our church strives to be different. We come to our community knowing that no matter where we are on life’s journey, we are welcomed and valued. We work to build relationships and keep our promises to one another and to God to do justice, love kindness and walk humbly with our God.
I hope to see you on Sunday.
Blessings,
Kate
