Dear Friends,

I loved visiting my Grandma and Grandpa Haar on Long Island when I was a child. That is, except for one thing – the sirens. My grandparents lived right next to the hospital in town, and as a child, I hated the sirens – they were loud and unpredictable, and it upset me knowing that people were hurt and sick. One particular day I got very sad, and I remember my Grandma and Mom explaining that we can’t control when the sirens go off, but when we hear them, we can say a prayer to God.

I was reminded of what my Grandma and Mom said to me this morning because as I was driving home from dropping Andrew and Lucas off at school, the traffic on Route 91 came to a complete stop. I could see the smoke billowing ahead, and I said a prayer for all those involved and for the people responding – the helpers.

In a world where so much seems out of control and hard, I’m looking out for the helpers and giving thanks for them.

Each and every day we can be helpers and share God’s love in this world. This weekend you can worship with us, serve with us by bringing your frozen turkey and a donation of any amount, eat with us at the multicultural potluck dinner and worship with us as we host the Interfaith Thanksgiving service on Sunday evening.

We invite you to worship with us this Sunday as we give thanks, sing, pray and connect. We have one service in the morning at 10:00 a.m. in the Meetinghouse and online.

The bulletin, large print bulletin and announcement slides are available on our website. You can watch any of our livestreamed or recorded services on our YouTube channel.

I look forward to seeing you all soon.

Blessings,

Kate

Our First Church family of faith enjoys worshipping together, and we hope you will join us! On most Sundays our worship services are at 8:00 am in the Micah Chapel and 10:00 am in the Meetinghouse and livestreamed (and are also available for viewing later).
