Dear Friends,

First Church is a special community because of all of you. In a world of sadness, darkness and injustice, God calls us to be bearers of light, love and hope. Individually and collectively we do this in all sorts of ways, including by delivering Easter flowers, handing out fresh food in our back parking lot, participating in hunger walks and Mission Immersion Days, learning, playing and reading together, singing songs of faith, giving generously of our time, talent and treasure, worshipping as one community, recognizing and honoring Mental Health Awareness Month and going on a mission trip. And these are just some of the ways we are being the church.

We are in our Season of Celebration, which means we have one service at 10:00 a.m. in the Meetinghouse and online. This Sunday we have the privilege of participating in a worship service written by and led by our high school students who went on a mission trip to Deep Roots in Maryland. Please join us!

The bulletin, large print bulletin and announcement slides are available on our website. You can watch any of our livestreamed or recorded services on our YouTube channel.

A while back I was on the website for Deep Roots learning more about their mission of ending homelessness one family at a time. I was struck by these words in their vision statement. "Ending poverty and homelessness begins with the building of community, relationships and in genuine human meeting – beyond barriers of race, class and religion. Community enriches all our lives, and the lives of our children; it lays the foundation for the gentle and peaceable world we long for: One in which the violence of poverty and homelessness have no more place."

These sound like words we would say – being part of a community lays the foundation for the peaceable world we yearn for and enriches all of our lives. We are blessed to be part of our compassionate, justice-seeking and connection-building community. I hope to see you on Sunday.

Take care,

Kate

Our First Church family of faith enjoys worshipping together, and we hope you will join us! During our Season of Celebration, we have one service at 10:00 am in the Meetinghouse and livestreamed (and services are also available for viewing later).
