Dear Friends,

On the cover of this week's bulletin, you will see Mary Oliver's words from the poem Thirst.

Praying

It doesn’t have to be

the blue iris, it could be

weeds in a vacant lot, or a few

small stones; just

pay attention, then patch

a few words together and don’t try

to make them elaborate, this isn’t

a contest but the doorway

into thanks, and a silence in which

another voice may speak.

This Sunday Nicole Struth, our Director of Mission, Justice and Membership who is on the path to ordination, will be preaching about how prayer is an act of love. It can be used as a uniting force when we pray for those who think and believe differently than us. And our efforts to pray for others, even when it's hard, bring us together as a united Body of Christ.

We invite you to worship with us this Sunday at 9:00 in the Meetinghouse or online. We have childcare and Church School throughout the summer. We can't wait to see you there!

The bulletin, large print bulletin and announcement slides are available on our website. You can watch any of our livestreamed or recorded services on our YouTube channel.

During our confirmation class, we have a lesson on prayer, and one of the prayers that we share that often catches the attention of our young people is written by Norman Grubb. Good morning, God, I love you! What are you up to today? I want to be part of it.

Each and every day may we pay attention, patch a few words together and be a part of God's world. May our connection with God comfort, renew and inspire us for the living of our days.

Peace,

Kate

Our First Church family of faith enjoys worshipping together, and we hope you will join us! On summer Sundays our worship services are at 9:00 am in the Meetinghouse and livestreamed (and are also available for viewing later).
