Worship Leaders: Our Back Bay Mission Trippers
Director of Music Ministries: Dr. Angela Salcedo
Music: 8:00 + 10:00 am Chris Hart, Tenor; 10:00 am Chancel Choir
Dear Friends,
Recently I was thinking of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King's words that he wrote from his Birmingham Alabama jail cell in 1963.
"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality,
tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly."
This weekend our nation is marking the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Some of us feel overwhelmed by the needs of the world and injustices at every turn, and yet our faith compels us to act in the name of justice and the “inescapable network of mutuality” that holds us together.
This week during our worship services we have the privilege of hearing from some of the dedicated church people who went to Back Bay Mission on our latest mission trip. (You can read about their week on their blog.) Every year this service inspires all of us to follow in the way of the prophet Micah by doing justice, loving kindness and walking humbly with God. We hope you will join us on Sunday at 8:00 a.m. in the Micah Chapel, 10:00 a.m. in the Meetinghouse or online.
The bulletin, large print bulletin and announcement slides are available on our website. You can watch any of our livestreamed or recorded services on our YouTube channel.
As a child, I remember attending yearly programs all about the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on this holiday weekend. Although I don’t remember the details of which church we attended, what the speakers said or the songs we sang, I remember the inspiring energy each year. I felt the Spirit there challenging, encouraging and demanding us to be faithful, justice-seeking and compassionate people. May we all feel God’s Spirit inspiring us to do justice, love kindness and walk humbly with our God!
Peace,
Kate
