Dear Friends,
Recently I attempted to restart my tradition of naming out loud blessings from the day. Since I know this can be a powerful exercise, I decided to include my children in this bedtime ritual. My idea was that we would take turns saying "a good thing" from the day. Let's just say that we aren't off to a great start with it...
It should be easy to reflect on our days with a lens of gratitude, right? Like Larissa Gomez writes, "Being thankful is not always experienced as a natural state of existence, we must work at it, akin to a type of strength training for the heart."
We practice our "strength training for the heart" when we gather each week for worship. It's our last 8:00 a.m. service in the Micah Chapel until the fall. We will also worship at 10:00 a.m. in the Meetinghouse and online. Please join us!
The bulletin, large print bulletin and announcement slides are available on our website. You can watch any of our livestreamed or recorded services on our YouTube channel.
Last night I didn't get to do the blessing ritual with my children since I was at the Glastonbury Holocaust Remembrance Evening. Before I laid my tired head down on my pillow, I gave thanks to God for a meaningful evening of stories and passion, a dedicated congregation that showed up to help with the event and the gifts of sunshine and flowers.
Will you be practicing "strength training" for your heart today? ❤️
Love,
Kate
Our First Church family of faith enjoys worshipping together, and we hope you will join us! On most Sundays our worship services are at 8:00 am in the Micah Chapel, 10:00 am in the Meetinghouse and livestreamed at 10:00 am (and are also available for viewing later).
