Dear Friends,

Be a blessing. Practice peace. Lead with love. Be joyful. Pray often. Be kind. Give thanks. Do good. Have courage.

Work for justice. Be the light. Encourage others.

The words above appear on a sign (created by the UCC) that was on my parents' lawn for years. These simple and powerful phrases remind us of how we are called to live.

When violence erupts in our country and around the world, wars rage on, illness kills, depression wreaks havoc, benefits are cut and children die from hunger, where do we turn to find hope and make a difference in the world? We turn to our church community, where together we get to plant and nurture the seeds of hope, peace, justice and love in our community and beyond.

For over 330 years, the people of First Church have lived out their faith by practicing peace, leading with love, working for justice and encouraging others. This Sunday we will gather at 10:00 a.m. in the Meetinghouse and online to honor our Silver and Gold members and to celebrate our Love for Children Capital Campaign and all the amazing projects associated with it.

The bulletin, large print bulletin and announcement slides are available on our website. You can watch any of our livestreamed or recorded services on our YouTube channel.

Even as our hearts are heavy with all that’s going on in our own lives and the world, we come together to pray, sing, connect and share love. We hope you will join us for our service this Sunday.

Blessings,

Kate

P. S. For those who were planning to join our First Church Walk Against Hunger on Saturday, it has been postponed until next Saturday, May 3, due to the weather forecast. You can also donate online to Connecticut Foodshare.

Our First Church family of faith enjoys worshipping together, and we hope you will join us! On most Sundays our worship services are at 8:00 am in the Micah Chapel and 10:00 am in the Meetinghouse and livestreamed (and are also available for viewing later).
