Franklinton Center at Bricks (FCAB) in Whitakers, North Carolina, is one of the many organizations that First Church supports with a grant from the Board of Christian Service, enabled by your generous pledges. At a Micah Moment on Sunday, October 26, you will have a chance to learn more about the mission and purpose of FCAB.

Among the questions that will be addressed: What is the 153-year background and history of FCAB? How has its mission transformed the lives of thousands of children, youth and adults? How has it lived out its historic mission for social and racial justice? How can the site of a former plantation – with a magnolia tree now planted where a whipping post once stood – continue to be a sacred and life-giving place for God’s shalom and justice? Why is it important for First Church to be a partner in this sacred and life-giving work?

The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said that our work for social justice must be done “in the fierce urgency of now.” For many, that urgency is once again being felt in new ways in our country. These and other questions will be explored at this October Micah Moment, under the leadership of David Taylor, Pastor Emeritus of First Church, and now a member of the Board of Trustees of FCAB.

Childcare provided. Community members welcome.
