The Scholarship
Committee of the First Church of Christ, Congregational in Glastonbury,
CT is happy to announce the recipients of the 2010 First Church of
Christ Music Scholarships. Kathryn Bowden ($1000), Tasha Pulvermacher
($1000) and Haeyoon Jung ($500). These scholarships are intended as
modest incentives to defray the cost of private music lessons and to
encourage and enhance the appreciation and performance of church music.
The Committee recognizes, with appreciation, the generosity of Board
Member, Norma Vaughn, who made it possible for the Board of Music to
offer the two additional scholarships of $1000 and $500 this year.
Kathryn Bowden, a
coloratura soprano, is a graduate of the University of Connecticut where
she earned her Bachelor of Music Degree in Vocal Performance. This
summer, she was accepted to the Chautauqua Institute Music Festival
where she will practice, perform and attend lectures and master classes
in vocal studies. Ms. Bowden was the winner of the University of
Connecticut Concerto Competition in 2009. This fall, she will continue
her studies at the University of Connecticut to obtain her Performance
Certificate with future plans to attend graduate school for her Master
of Music Degree in Vocal Performance.
Tasha Pulvermacher,
violinist and violist, is a 2010 graduate of Glastonbury High School
attending George Washington University in the fall. She has served as
concertmaster for many Glastonbury area musical productions, plays First
Violin in the Glastonbury Orchestra, and while at GHS served as
concertmaster for Opus One, the high school chamber orchestra. This
summer she will once again fill the role of concertmaster, this time for
the Killingworth-Haddam production of "Annie."
Haeyoon Jung, flutist,
just completed 9th grade at Glastonbury High School. She has played for
the CMEA (Connecticut Music Educator’s Association) Eastern Regional
Band and Orchestra, and was the highest-scoring flutist in her 8th grade
audition. In 2010 she was accepted into the All-New England Music
Festival Band. She studies with Susan Allen, and enjoys playing tennis
when not playing flute, or her other instruments: piano, piccolo and
French horn. |
