Paul Fraleigh and his wife Linda have been First Church members for 30 years.

When they moved to Glastonbury, Paul and Linda had a plan for choosing a church. “We were going to visit a bunch of different churches in the area and then choose the one that seemed right for us. First Church Glastonbury was our first stop and we never looked any further. The people were so warm and friendly, we just kept going back. We knew we'd found a home.”

Today, Paul and his wife are very active in the life of the church and Paul invests a lot of time in our mission activities. Among other things, he is one of the leaders of First Church’s volunteer effort with the Mobile Foodshare van that comes to the church every other week.

Paul and Linda love the warm family atmosphere and the active participation the children have in every service. “The kids do skits, and sing, and have a puppet group. Our granddaughter attends church with us regularly and she goes on Youth Mission Trips.” When asked what he enjoys most about First Church, Paul replied, “its warmth. We consider this church to be a part of our family.”

Shannon Jeroszko and her family have been members of First Church for 6 years.

She was first drawn to First Church by its beauty and impressive size. When she visited the church, she “fell in love because of the strong Christian Education Program and the focus on "Thou Shalt," instead of "Thou Shalt Not."”

When asked what are her favorite things about First Church, she answers, “the sermons. They jumpstart my week and I leave church energized.” Shannon also values the fact that the church provides so many ways to “make a difference” through the various types of mission opportunities. Perhaps most important to her is that she knows her daughter will always have the church as her support system.

For Shannon, three words that describe First Church are:  Community…Love...Acceptance.

Lynn Baronas and her family began worshipping at First Church in the early 1990s, shortly after they moved to Glastonbury.

They were drawn to the meaningful worship services, the warm community, and the religious education opportunities for their (at the time) three young children.

When asked what has kept her coming back, Lynn replied, “First Church consistently fills my heart and brain with hope and love.” She values the friends - new and old - she has made through the years. In addition, she enjoys the opportunity First Church offers to share thoughts and ideas with others in small groups, like the Theological Reflection Group.

For Lynn, three words that define First Church are:  Love…Outreach…Acceptance.

Greg Kernisan has been coming to First Church for as long as he can remember.

“I believe I was three or four when I first started coming here, which would be about fourteen years ago. My mother was looking for a church and met another family at a playground who suggested their church, First Church. We took their suggestion and have been here ever since.”

When asked to describe his favorite things about First Church, Greg shares how First Church “offers a strong and loving community. I come on Sundays to reconnect with my friends, as well as to meet new people.” In addition, Greg values that First Church offers many opportunities to do good in the world. “There are opportunities to do God's work both near and far on Mission Immersion Days and Mission Trips, in addition to the annual mission projects that raise money for causes around the world.” Greg also values how First Church and the people in the community have helped him to grow in faith. Greg explains how one way this happens is through attending worship. “The sermons and readings are always tailored to be relevant and applicable to our daily lives.”

For Greg, three words to describe First Church are:  Friendliness…Community…God.
