Adult Learning Opportunities

Opportunities Throughout the Year

Biography Book Group - This group meets every other month, usually on the second Tuesday, at 4:00 p.m. to discuss fascinating biographies.

First Church Outside - Attention all nature lovers! We have a nature group for fellowship and learning. We've had events and activities, including a summer farm stand on Sunday mornings, photography exhibits, various hikes and other educational programs. Whether you enjoy nature photography, hiking, feeding the birds, gardening or just sitting outside and taking in all that God has created, we would love to have you involved! If you have questions or want to get involved, please contact Tracy Kavanaugh at lilypadprints@gmail.com or 413-250-3838.

Our hikes take us to some of most scenic and naturally beautiful parks, preserves and trails that Connecticut has to offer. Ranging from 2 to 6 miles and from easy to difficult, there is something for everyone. For more information, contact Rich Baber at richbaber@yahoo.com or check out our Facebook page at: First Church Outside: Hikes.

Lenten Series - During Lent we hold a series of weekday evening programs for fellowship, dinner and learning. Child Care is provided.

Millennial Fellowship - We have a fellowship group for millennials (20-somethings and early 30-somethings with monthly events focused on team building, community service, faith formation and fun. We hope you join us for volunteering, social events and faith conversations.

Moms’ Group - Raising children in this current world is a privilege and often a challenge, so we join together to support each other and to take action on issues that affect us and the world we live in. Inspired and encouraged by our faith, we look forward to meeting new friends, sharing ideas, taking action and providing opportunities for our children to help us create a more just and peaceful world. We meet on the first Wednesday of the month.

Potpourri - On the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 7:30 a.m., the church kitchen is alive with coffee, conversation and a delicious breakfast cooked up by Al Reid! No reservations are necessary. Come anytime; a place is always set for you!

Prayer and Share - Prayer and Share meets Tuesday mornings from 9:45 to 11:00 a.m. Join us for a time of prayer, sharing, and forming friendships. Being part of a small group within a large church fosters a feeling of belonging and caring.

Prayer Shawl Ministry - Do you knit? Crochet? Enjoy fellowship and the opportunity to help and support others? If the answer is YES to any of the above, come join us! The First Church Prayer Shawl Ministry usually meets the third Monday of the month from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. We also have a Morning Prayer Shawl group. Don’t know how to knit or crochet? We can teach you.

Thursday Morning Study Group - Join this lively and engaging group every Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m. to discuss a variety of topics and books throughout the year.

Women's Theological Reflection Group - Women of First Church are invited on the third Wednesday of each month at 8:00 a.m. to discuss a variety of faith questions, reflect on personal journeys, and to share friendship and community. We discuss topics such as prayer, healing, faith journeys, doing justice, finding quiet time, our addiction to hurrying, and gratitude. We often circulate short articles of interest for those who wish to learn more about the topic before our meetings, but there is no homework.
