Stewardship Committee

The Congregation’s Stewardship Campaign was concluded in early January. Through the generosity of 385 individuals and families more than $688,000 was pledged. Overall we grew our pledges by 2% which is most impressive considering the economic uncertainty facing our region.

These gifts will touch every corner of our faith community as they enable us to continue to fund and enhance such vital programs as pastoral care, community outreach and our many vibrant ministries. Clearly, it is only through the community of the entire congregation that we can fulfill our mission of nurturing Christian development and providing love and support for everyone.

For several years our goal has been to reach an average pledge of 3% of household income. While it is encouraging that 40% of those who pledged to the Campaign were able to increase their pledge by 16%, the sobering fact is the average gift of $1,789 was about $1,000 less than the 3% household target.

We all support the congregation in many ways through our gifts of time and talent. However, annual giving is what will ultimately make the difference in the First Church of today – by underwriting the extraordinary programs that sustain our family of faith – and by providing seed money for new investments that will set the course of our future.

Many thanks to the 75 members who worked on this year’s campaign.
