About Us
Korean
PartnershipA
Partnership between the churches of the Connecticut Conference of the
United Church of Christ and the Kyung-Ki Presbytery of the People’s
Republic of Korea (South Korea).
What is a
Partnership?
In the United Church of Christ, a Partnership is understood to be a
special covenanted relationship between two church bodies for the
purpose of strengthening faith and understanding and serving Jesus
Christ.
What is the basic purpose of a local church
Partnership?
A local church Partnership is a covenanted relationship between two
churches. It is a commitment to build a relationship with each other, to
learn about each other’s culture, and to grow in faith.
Sacred Journey Youth Program (Exchange)
“Every four years the Connecticut Conference sponsors the Sacred Journey
program, affording youth (Grades 9-12) the opportunity to visit their
Partner churches (2006, 2010, 2014).
“Youth participants and adult
chaperones will be traveling to South Korea for the Sacred Journey
program in August 2010. Two youth are going from First Church, along
with youth from Mystic Congregational Church, First Church in Windsor,
First Church in Granby, and Riverton.

Two pastors from the
Kyung-Gi Presbyterian Church in Korea attended the October
2009 CT Conference annual meeting which was held in
Middletown, CT. Our Rev. Kate Van Derzee’s parents
graciously hosted three (two pastors and one spouse) of
the Korean visitors. (Thank You!)
Korean partnership
members also held fundraising activities to help with the
cost of our visitors, gifts and our upcoming visits to
Korea. Our Korean Bazaar was a success!
The Connecticut Women of
the UCC invited Korean women to attend the March 2010 UCC
Women’s Celebration, held every four years in Burlington,
Vermont for two nights and three days. Three Korean women
participated. One of the women, Sun –Soon Choi, is a
member of Choweol Presbytery Church, our partner church.
The second woman, Yang-soon Han, is a member of the Suwon
Church. The two of them were hosted by Sandee and Jay
Brown, Donna and John Kidwell. Our guests enjoyed a
potluck supper at First Church and a tour of Yale and the
Peabody Museum in New Haven. They also visited the Prayer
Shawl Ministry group. A third woman was hosted by the
Mystic Congregational Church.
This summer Stephen
Buttaro and Kevin Sears, two high school students from our
church, will be attending the Sacred Journey trip to South
Korea. Irene Choi and Brian Sears will serve as
chaperones.
