ANNUAL
REPORT
The Church Growth and Membership
Committee is established under the Board of Deacons. The revolving Chair
and Vice Chair positions are assigned to members of that Board. The
other members are enthusiastic volunteers from the membership of the
congregation.
This year, I was fortunate to serve as
Chair with the most remarkable group of people, equally committed to the
tasks of the committee and their love for our church. The committee was
comprised of Jon Brown, Evelyn Pontillo, Bruce Sill, Joyce Young, and
Amy Bancroft as Vice Chair. I would like to give special mention to
Evelyn Pontillo, who agreed to continue serving on the committee this
year, even though her term expired in May 2007.
The primary focus of the committee is on
the nurturing of visitors and new members of the church. The committee
attends the Welcome Table every Sunday throughout the year during the
coffee hour between services. Working with Kathy Ciolkosz, in the Church
office, we also contact each visitor who signs the pew pads each week.
The committee also coordinates the fall and spring new member
gatherings, calling each prospective new member to answer any questions
and to invite them to participate. This year, our church was blessed
with the addition of enthusiastic and active new members, many who are
already participating in the life of our congregation through church
school, choirs, and service on other committees. We welcomed 23 new
members in the fall, and another 18 new members who joined in the
spring. In addition, our ranks were increased by 21 confirmands who also
joined the church in the spring.
The committee discussed several ideas to
make our role more visible and welcoming. We purchased small bags with a
"welcome" logo that will be used to present the myriad of information
available on the welcome table to new visitors to take home in a much
more appealing package. We also designed a much more functional welcome
table (on wheels) that can be moved within Schultz Hall, and also
outside during the summer hours. We anticipate inaugurating this
"welcome on wheels" during this year’s summer services.
Without question, this was the most
positive committee assignment I have ever participated in. I am
confident this group of vibrant volunteers will continue to prosper
under Amy’s leadership. I wish them all continued success.
Respectfully submitted,
Diane O’Brien, Chair
